One of Gemini's coolest features is now open to all Android and iOS users – for free

Several months ago, Google promised that one of the coolest Gemini features would soon be available on a much larger scale.

That moment has arrived as Google announced that Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing is now free for all users worldwide on iOS and Android, starting today. The feature was first introduced in January as an exclusive for the Pixel 9 series, and Galaxy S24 and S25 series, but now it’s open to everyone.

If you’re not familiar, the screen-sharing feature lets you ask Gemini about anything on your screen or that you can see through your camera. You’ll know you have the feature when you see a new “Share screen with Live” button. 

To use your camera with this feature, tap the viewfinder button. You can ask questions about anything that’s in frame without having to take a picture. For example, Google explained, you can point at food and ask if it fits your diet or eating preferences, or point at a piece of clothing and ask for outfit ideas.

To let Gemini see your screen, open Gemini and tap “Share screen with Live.” Gemini will actively listen until you tap “hang up” or “hold.” 

In a demo video from Google, a user asked Gemini to “tell me something about this that most people don’t know”, with “this” being an article about the golden ratio. Gemini explained that while the ratio is well known, it pops up in unusual places, such as the spiral patterns of sunflower seeds and pine cones. 

The user followed up with a request for “more about this guy”, while looking at an article about a famous Renaissance mathematician. Gemini gave a basic rundown of who he was and offered more information about his theories.

While this feature doesn’t necessarily provide access to different knowledge, using “Share screen with Live” is a much easier way to access Gemini than typing. Google noted that Live conversations are up to five times longer than text-based chats.
