From Tele-HELP to telehealth – Cisco Blogs
Established in 2006, Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres is a healthcare network based in the United Arab Emirates. Comprised of four hospitals and 15 medical centres, as well as four more centres opening this year, the multicultural network provides preventive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare globally. Utilizing its “3Es” of Medcare Enriches, Empowers, and Evolves, they promote a “caring mission with a global vision.”
Prior to March 2020, Medcare’s patient-doctor interaction consisted of face-to-face consultations, where doctors would converse with a patient and subsequently bring in specialists on a case-by-case basis. Their goal is to reach every patient in need and develop a user-friendly appointment-booking experience. The arrival of COVID-19, however, uprooted Medcare’s day-to-day operations. CEO, Andre Daoud, realized that Medcare needed to transition to full-time telemedicine and partnered with Cisco to develop a beta version of the teleMEDCARE platform in just six days. Utilizing Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration Program (CDA), teleMEDCARE enables patients to immediately consult with a care provider live, learn more about how to stay safe from COVID-19, and continue to receive prescription refills for chronic conditions.
Daoud noted, “Our partnership with Cisco and involvement with the CDA initiative exemplified the true meaning of collaboration, social responsibility, and the willingness of two organizations to come together and cater to the community in the most uncertain times.”
Medcare and Cisco are working together to enable accessibility for patients everywhere. By May 2021, Medcare provided more than 15,000 teleconsultations via teleMEDCARE. What better way to learn more about this collaboration than to hear from CEO Andre Daoud in his own words?
