Announcing the VMware Well-Architected Framework for Azure VMware Solution
Today we are excited to announce the VMware and Microsoft partnership for the VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework. This partnership will deliver Microsoft’s and VMware’s best technical guidance for rapidly building a resilient production-ready Azure VMware Solution environment for customers.
The VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework (VMCWAF) provides the foundational guidance and best practices for designing, implementing, securing, and managing workloads in a VMware Cloud-based software-defined data center such as Azure VMware Solution (AVS). The key objective of the VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework is to help customers accelerate their efforts toward infrastructure and application modernization. Microsoft is a key contributor to the VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework for Azure VMware Solution. Also, the VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework works hand in hand with Azure VMware Solution Landing Zone Accelerator by delivering a production-ready Azure VMware Solution private cloud environment for customers through public documentation and open source automation.
Azure VMware Solution private cloud has already been architected with many of VMware’s best practices for vSphere, vSAN, and NSX. It requires additional guiding principles to ensure customers succeed in their cloud migration journey. As customers start their cloud journey, the mindset or approach around managing, maintaining, and operating, for example, their VMware environments today, will shift. The VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework Pillars will help guide and prepare customers on what considerations are needed throughout their cloud journey as they plan, build, modernize, secure, and operate. In addition, Customer Journey Maps are the next level of detail. They provide an end-to-end solution-centric approach as we look at the business object (use-case), goals, and strategies, including identifying potential solutions.
Even for existing customers, the VMware Cloud Well-Architected Framework provides modularized guidance so customers can continue to tune their workloads across pillars/critical design areas.
Customers can use Azure VMware Solution Landing Zone Accelerator to adapt to the Azure Cloud Adoption Framework guidelines and provision a guided production-ready private cloud. The Azure VMware Solution Landing Zone Accelerator provides automation tools with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, and Bicep. Since not all organizations will implement or architect Azure VMware Solution on Azure in the same way, the Azure VMware Solution Landing Zone Accelerator will enable organizations to build an architecture that quickly puts them on a path to a sustainable scale.
The Azure VMware Solution Landing Zone Accelerator is open source and provides customers with a guided experience. To get started, you can implement an Azure VMware Solution Landing Zone Accelerator, which can be found here. Once an Azure VMware Solution Private Cloud is provisioned, customers can manage their VMware environment with familiarity and have access to native Azure services for their VMware workloads.
