Performance made simple with Cisco UCS X-Series powered by Intersight
In the first blog of this series, we saw just how easy it was to deploy a X210c Compute Node with Cisco Intersight. Last week, we showed how X-Series can deliver outstanding performance for Oracle databases. Today, we are going to go a bit deeper on configuration and show how easy it is to get great performance with very little effort.
Configuration
It all starts with a server profile template. If you’re new to UCS, it’s easy to set up pools, policies, and templates in Cisco Intersight. Our experts have already done much of the work for you as the defaults work extremely well in most situations. With Intersight, you can use the API to completely automate server configuration and deployment. Or use our GUI and have it walk you through everything you need to configure management, storage, and network policies.
Let’s watch Technical Marketing Engineer Scott Garee go through creating a service profile template.
Rinse & repeat
Once the policies and pools have been created, you can reuse them for your next server deployment. You can also replicate and modify for different use cases and applications. A great example of this is networking defaults by operating system – see @3:21 of the video for details. Coming soon, you’ll be able to create one policy for VMware infrastructure and then copy it and change that one entry for a bare metal Windows or Linux server. These defaults come from the thousands of hours Cisco engineers have spent on performance testing and tuning. Previously, these best practices were only published in Cisco Validated Designs. Now they are incorporated into Cisco Intersight. You can leverage our expertise to get great performance using built in defaults.
What’s next
Come back next week and see those networking polices come to life with a video showing single server 200G Ethernet performance.
