VMware Cloud Director Service Now Generally Available for Azure VMware Solution
Moving your VMware infrastructure to the cloud shouldn’t mean leaving behind some of the key private cloud features you’ve come to value. One of those features is the ability to share and manage your VMware software-defined data center (SDDC) resources across multiple tenant groups within your enterprise that VMware Cloud Director service provides.
Already a year of successful experience
We’re pleased to share the news that VMware Cloud Director service is now generally available for use with Azure VMware Solution, a Microsoft Azure service that offers VMware infrastructure in the Azure cloud. Cloud Director service has been available as a VMware attached service for Azure VMware Solution in preview status for the past year. Our experience gathered with multiple enterprises running Cloud Director service and Azure VMware Solution over those months has met the strict standards needed to move it to general availability status.
A multi-cloud operating model for enterprise IT teams, wherever their infrastructure resides
VMware Cloud Director service provides a multi-cloud control plane for managing multi-tenancy on infrastructure ranging from on-premises customer data centers, managed service provider facilities, and the VMware Cloud platforms we offer on the major public clouds.
Cloud Director service lets you sub-divide Azure VMware Solution SDDC resources and assign them to different tenants in your organization. For example, a smaller line of business (LOB) may have low resource requirements that won’t justify providing them with an entire 3-node Azure VMware Solution SDDC. You can use Cloud Director service to assign that LOB to a slice of your SDDC and reserve the rest for a larger LOB’s applications. The small and large LOBs are managed as separate tenants who can self-serve to provision VMs, storage, and networking, but they remain securely isolated from one another and can’t consume resources allocated to your other tenants.
VMware Cloud Director service is a SaaS offering available for use with any Azure region supporting Azure VMware Solution. VMware automates deployment and upgrades of Cloud Director service and it provides out-of-the-box integration with Azure VMware Solution.
