Cisco and IBM launch new offering built on IBM Cloud Satellite – Cisco Blogs
Offering called IBM Cloud Satellite Infrastructure Service helps deliver hybrid cloud services
Businesses today find themselves in a time of great change. As innovative new technologies make it easier than ever for us to connect and conduct business, the COVID-19 pandemic has actually accelerated companies’ efforts to digitally transform. Cisco and IBM collaborated on a solution that reflects this pattern.
Our organizations have worked together for more than 25 years, providing technology, business consulting services, and industry expertise to help our customers address their most pressing business and technology decisions. We believe that our latest collaboration is one of the most important things we’ve done together to-date.
Building on IBM Cloud Satellite
IBM Cloud Satellite is designed to let clients build, deploy and manage cloud services in any environment – in any public cloud, on-premises, or at the edge, and enables them to access secured and open cloud services at any point in their digital transformation journey.
Building on IBM Cloud Satellite, Cisco and IBM worked together to develop IBM Cloud Satellite Infrastructure Service (IS) – an offering designed to give clients the ability to access public cloud services from IBM combined with a managed private cloud infrastructure. Using IBM Cloud Satellite IS, clients can access managed cloud services, delivered via on-premises infrastructure. For companies that are working to modernize their applications, IBM Cloud Satellite IS is designed to deliver the benefits of IBM Cloud, with the security, latency, and simplicity of a dedicated, on-premises infrastructure that is set up and managed by IBM.
IBM Cloud Satellite IS, leverages Cisco infrastructure components including Cisco UCS® blade servers, Cisco Intersight™, Cisco SMARTnet™, Cisco Nexus® networking, as well as Intel Xeon processors and IBM Services.
Managed infrastructure for increased flexibility
With IBM Cloud Satellite IS, IBM manages the infrastructure and Cisco provides many of the components. Based on feedback from customers who’ve told us they don’t want to own infrastructure anymore, the IBM Cloud Satellite IS solution helps to address this request. Customers will pay for IBM Cloud Satellite IS as a hourly fee based on their usage. They can begin with a smaller starting point to meet their current compute requirements, and then scale resources over time as needed. No more large, up-front CapEx purchases based future usage projections; no more complicated procurement and approval processes to follow when the need to expand arises. As a customers’ needs grow, they can focus on realizing business outcomes, without the burden of having to manage new infrastructure.
With IBM Cloud Satellite IS, clients can move to an environment designed to improve uptime, a refreshed network and up-to-date software and hardware components–without requiring large, up-front capital expense. They can gain business agility, flexibility, scalability, and security. I encourage you to learn more about how Cisco and IBM have worked together successfully for more than 25 years. Continue watching the Cisco blog space; Jeff Gatz will be posting more details on the technologies behind IBM Cloud Satellite IS so you can understand how it can benefit your IT organization.
