Amazon's new Fire tablets with AI are already on sale before Prime Day
Amazon just quietly revamped its Fire HD 8 tablet lineup with improved features and performance in preparation for October Prime Day, including artificial intelligence features that will be coming to more Fire tablet models. The new Fire HD 8 tablet features 50% more RAM, making it better for streaming, gaming, and everyday use. It’s also on sale through Prime Big Deal Days, available now through October 9 for only $55.
The Fire HD 8 tablet has a 5MP rear-facing camera, up to 13 hours of battery life, and two internal storage options: 32GB and 64GB. A separately sold microSD card can expand the storage to up to 1TB. The tablets are available in Black, Hibiscus, and Emerald.

Amazon also announced new generative AI features for compatible Fire tablets to generate text and images. These features include Writing Assist, Webpage Summaries, and Wallpaper Creator.
Fire tablet users will be able to generate their own wallpaper images with Wallpaper Creator. You can choose from curated prompts or write your own to generate high-resolution images for your tablet.
Writing Assist works much like an AI chatbot within your tablet, helping you edit text with generative AI directly from your Fire tablet keyboard. This makes it accessible from any app on your Fire tablet and offers pre-set styles, grammar suggestions, and custom writing. Fire tablet users will be able to access Writing Assist in e-mail, Word documents, messages, and social media.
Webpage Summaries will be available within the Silk browser to provide quick insight on websites, giving you a concise version of an article or website.

For now, it is unclear which tablets will be compatible and whether Amazon’s children’s tablets will get the generative AI features that the company announced today.
Amazon also launched kid-friendly versions of the new tablets, with a Fire HD 8 Kids tablet and a Kids Pro tablet, each featuring increased RAM and each available for only $70 through October Prime Day. These tablets come cloaked in a durable, kid-friendly case, an Amazon Kids+ subscription, and a two-year worry-free guarantee, where Amazon will repair or replace a tablet with a broken screen. The kids tablets are now available in different colors and Disney character designs.
