An Exciting Time for Mobile, Wireless and Optical – Cisco Blogs

Many parts of the globe have come back to pre-pandemic life in a big way after two years of isolation. I had the opportunity to attend Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain (over 61,000 attendees), and the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) in San Diego, California. Those events were super inspiring, not only because now is a terrific time for mobile, wireless and optical technologies but because people were thrilled to finally get together again. The excitement was palpable.

At MWC, Cisco’s Mass-Scale Infrastructure Group (MIG) took center stage to focus on the power of Wi-Fi, Private 5G, and IoT together. With Private 5G (P5G) as a service, Cisco is helping businesses rapidly scale and digitize their operations with the goal of supporting hybrid work. It’s exactly what service providers and enterprises alike have been asking for. With pay-as-you-use consumption models, customers can start small and scale up over time while having the agility to adjust priorities as business needs change.

I could not be more excited about our solutions and the phenomenal customers and partners we are working with, including those in the education, entertainment, government, hospitality, and manufacturing industries. Cisco allows partners like DISH Networks, Logicalis, NTT, NEC Corporation and Colt Technology Services to quickly and cost-effectively deliver experiences that enterprises demand, bundling Cisco Private 5G with their own value-added solutions. But don’t just take it from me – read the phenomenal partner and customer quotes and the coverage in SDX Central and Reseller News, among others.

Also at MWC, Cisco and Rakuten Symphony, Inc. signed an MOU to accelerate the delivery for cloud-native, virtualized 4G/5G mobile networks based on Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) technology. This is so exciting because together, we’re addressing the need for massive transformation to reduce costs, enhance agility and meet future technical, regulatory, and environmental requirements for sustainability.

Finally, while the future of connectivity is wireless and Cisco continues to disrupt the market with innovation, including launching and enhancing crucial technologies necessary to make the metaverse a reality, there are still some 3 billion people in the world who remain underserved in terms of internet access. Cisco continues to challenge how we build and manage networks to build an inclusive future for all. Routed Optical Networking is a great example of how Cisco is driving network transformation through simplification, cost reduction, and increased efficiency. It definitely took center stage at OFC! Routed Optical Networking is real and it’s here now.

The recent weeks are a testament to our dedication to providing our customers with complete solutions, from the data center to campus. Cisco will continue to make the investments necessary to ensure we connect as many people as possible in the most cost-effective and sustainable way possible.
