Apple Sports is making game day a whole lot easier – here's how
Apple Sports is making it easier to catch your favorite team on television.

The free sports app, which debuted last spring, offers a simple way to keep track of your favorite teams. The main screen shows daily matchups and results, and you can swipe to see box scores, upcoming games, play-by-play results, and more. Last fall, it even added the ability to view live scores on your phone’s lock screen.
New Apple Sports features
The app is receiving several new features today, including TV broadcast information. When you tap on the page for a specific game, you’ll see TV information, such as “Live on ESPN” or “Live on TNT, truTV,” below the matchup. In today’s streaming landscape, where many teams have their own networks, it’s easy to miss when your team is appearing on a national broadcast. The app does not offer local broadcast information.

In addition, Apple says navigating between favorite teams is now faster thanks to the ability to swipe left or right to browse all the teams you follow. The app is also adding several new soccer leagues, including the FA Cup, EFL Championship, and League Cup.
Not quite ESPN but still worth a look
While Apple Sports doesn’t quite rival dedicated apps like ESPN, it’s consistently adding new features. In addition to all major leagues like the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and MLS, it tracks men’s and women’s NCAA basketball, the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, the Champions League, the Conference League, and more.
Last fall, it added play-by-play drive tracking for the NFL, integration with Apple TV devices, and top-25 team tracking for the NCAA.

There’s no Apple Watch app for Apple Sports, but you can get live score updates through Live Activities on your watch.
Although it may come over time, right now there are no ads on Apple Sports, making it stand out against other sports apps that are filled with advertisements. If you’re looking for a simple alternative to the major networks, it’s worth a look.
