Best Buy will give you our favorite Sony Bravia TV for free when you buy another – here's what to know

Kerry Wan/ZDNET

Sony is most known for its high-end OLED TVs and home audio equipment, but its Mini LED and midrange LED models still offer impressive picture and audio quality, even if you opt for an older model. And right now at Best Buy, when you buy a 98-inch Sony Bravia 5 at the regular price, you’ll get a 65-inch Bravia X90L for free. That’s a $1,200 TV you can use as a second screen in your home.

Here’s the deal with this BOGO offer. For most people, this offer may not be enticing. There’s no need to spend $6,500 on a TV just to score another one free — unless you’re already planning on purchasing the 98-inch Sony Bravia 5. So if that’s you — read on.

The Sony Bravia 5 is everything you love about the company’s OLED TVs without the more advanced panel and accompanying price tag. Not that the 98-inch Bravia 5 is cheap, but for the price, you get a high-quality TV with picture and audio quality and innovative features to keep your home theater on the cutting edge for years to come. The updated Mini LED panel gives you crisp 4K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother motion during fast-paced movie and TV scenes, sports broadcasts, and gaming. Dolby Vision HDR enhances contrast for cleaner details and more accurate colors. Both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio give you 3D virtual surround sound for a more immersive experience.

It also features 4 HDMI inputs as well as Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to set up home audio equipment, game consoles, and playback devices like Blu-ray players to create the ultimate home theater; console gamers who prefer the PlayStation 5 can take advantage of exclusive VRR support and picture processing to get the most out of your favorite titles. And with AirPlay 2 support, you can share video, photos, and music from your Mac and iOS devices.

The Sony Bravia X90L is an older LED model, but still a favorite of ZDNET’s editor-in-chief, Jason Hiner. He’s seen the best of the best when it comes to what Sony and other brands like LG and Samsung have to offer in high-end TVs. He says he has been consistently impressed with how well the X90L holds up when comparing color accuracy, brightness, refresh rates, and 4K image processing.

The Bravia X90L also uses Sony’s Acoustic Multi-Audio technology to create more immersive sound that follows the on-screen action. With enhanced compatibility with the PlayStation 5, you’ll get the same proprietary VRR support, auto HDR tone mapping, and an automatic low-latency mode for improved response time.

Add the 98-inch Bravia 5 and 65-inch Bravia X90L to your cart to take advantage of this offer. The Best Buy website will automatically apply the discount for your free TV, though taxes and shipping may still apply.

How I rated this deal

While it’s a bit of a bummer that the Bravia 5 itself isn’t on sale, I suppose the free 65-inch X90L helps take some sting out of that $6,500 price tag. Both TVs offer excellent picture and audio quality and plenty of innovative features we’ve come to expect as standard, like a preloaded suite of streaming apps and integrated voice controls. And with this bundle deal, you can instantly upgrade two rooms in your home for the price of one TV. However, $6,500 is a large chunk of change to shell out on a TV, so this BOGO offer will only suit a specific customer — someone already looking to purchase the Sony Bravia 5. Otherwise, there’s no reason to spend over $6,000 for a free 65-inch TV.

Best Buy is running its free 65-inch Sony Bravia X90L promotion until June 22, 2025. Though deals are subject to additional terms and conditions such as available stock and exclusive membership offers. Best Buy also reserves the right to change the bundle offer at any time.
