Cisco at NAB Show 2023: Powering Innovation and Next-Level Experiences with Intel
Innovation and partnerships take on many different forms. Some are static, while others are dynamic, growing and fostering innovation to driving industries forward. Cisco’s partnership with Intel is certainly the latter, and for that reason (and many others) I’m really looking forward to showcasing the exciting technology innovation we’re driving in connectivity, interoperability, performance and latency at the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas this year.
Cisco and Intel have been working together to transform storage, compute, and network switching to revolutionize the industry alongside our fantastic ecosystem of partners.
Let me share a few of the cool things we are partnering with Intel to accomplish.
Upgrades to Cisco IP Fabric for Media
Cisco IP Fabric for Media, featuring Intel technology, has been proven to provide new ways to manage workloads, workflows, and content management (meeting ST 2110 standards), with over 100 active deployments to-date. This year we are showcasing further modernization of IP Fabric for Media with features for Non-Blocking Multicast (NBM), NAT, and PFM-SD. Added software innovation features provide end-to-end, multicast, live traffic visibility, simplified and flexible deployment at scale, innovations in NBM active, as well as RTP flow monitoring. Cisco IP Fabric for Media will also now include 400G and 800G switches.
Intel Media Transport Library
Cisco and Intel are working together to continue to drive the media industry forward with IP video technology. The Intel Media Transport Library facilitates ST 2110 network traffic for video production software applications that run on Cisco servers (powered by Intel Xeon processors) using Intel Network Interface Cards (NIC). The library efficiently transfers ST 2110 media and data between the CPU and a foundational NIC, enabling ST 2110 sessions to maintain consistent, simultaneous high throughput without interruption.
Delivering Superior Experiences at the Edge
Cisco and Qwilt have been collaborating closely over the last few years, combining strengths to revolutionize content delivery using Qwilt’s Open Edge platform based on Open Caching, with Cisco’s best-in-class infrastructure, including Nexus & UCS featuring Intel technology. The Open Edge platform brings immediate value, offering unmatched quality, traffic optimization, monetization, and a foundation for future use cases enabled by the carrier edge. The companies’ shared edge infrastructure platform continues to gather momentum with over 175 content publishers and service providers using the solution to-date.
Intel Data Stream Acceleration (DSA) for High-Bandwidth Content
Ever-increasing resolution and higher bit rates from high-bandwidth content, such as live video production, video streaming in 4K and 8K, and the rise of immersive content experiences like AR/VR and 360-degree video, continue to drive the need for a range of new connectivity standards, especially for VoIP. The infrastructure that supports these experiences must meet growing requirements and continue to support excellent user experiences. Intel’s innovation around Data Stream Acceleration (DSA) is a high-performance data copy and transformation accelerator that is native with 4th gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, used in Cisco UCS and Nexus. This technology optimizes streaming data movement and transformation operations common with high-performance storage, networking, persistent memory, and various data processing applications. For content providers looking to capture more optimization, this solution can unlock a host of new capabilities.
FPGA for Live Video Production Workflows
IP media technology is all about networks, servers, storage, and applications. Live IP video production has introduced new network designs and topologies to meet the mission critical requirements of live media transport over a network. Cisco has teamed with Intel on its FPGA for Live Video Production Workflows technology, providing a reference hardware platform to enable customers to develop, tune, and optimize specific workloads on Cisco hardware before going to full production. For organizations looking to make production-quality cards but want to optimize their IP before committing to a final design, this collaborative effort from Cisco and Intel provides new opportunities to streamline development and inspire creativity.
