Cisco Welcomes Bill Davenport as Senior Director, Government Affairs

Cisco is proud to announce that Bill Davenport will serve as a Senior Director of Government Affairs in our Washington, DC office. Bill will accelerate our communications and technology policy engagements with U.S. and international government entities. In this position, he will also place a global emphasis on the importance of releasing spectrum in the 6 GHz band to alleviate wireless spectrum congestion and to enable an entirely new generation of advanced technologies, such as Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7.
Throughout Bill’s career, he has been an excellent advocate for policies that power innovation, bolster connectivity, and enable individuals to learn, access health care, and interact with government services in a digital future. During this unprecedented time of increased investment in broadband service and connected devices, his profound experience and policy expertise are a tremendous addition to Cisco.
“Government policy must evolve to reflect the essential nature and capabilities of advanced broadband services, whether that service is 5G (fixed or mobile), cable, fiber, or satellite. Cisco’s purpose is to power an inclusive future for all, and I’m looking forward to advocating for solutions that both encourage innovation and connect everyone.” – Bill Davenport, Senior Director, Government Affairs.
Prior to joining Cisco, Bill served as Chief of Staff and Senior Legal Advisor for FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, where he oversaw the office’s operations and advised the Commissioner on wireless, equipment, and international issues. Bill has a long record of federal service, having worked in various positions within the FCC, including as the senior manager responsible for the Commission’s spectrum and equipment enforcement matters. He also has served as an executive at a technology company and began his career as an associate at a DC-area law firm.
Bill is a two-time co-chair of the Federal Communications Bar Association’s Enforcement Committee and a member of the endorsements committee of the DC chapter of the National Hispanic Bar Association. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
