Cisco Welcomes Brett McGurk

Technological leadership is now a defining factor shaping the future of our country and our world, from economic growth to international cooperation and national security. Today, innovations in AI, secure connectivity, digital infrastructure, and cloud computing aren’t just transforming industries—they’re reshaping how nations engage, collaborate, and compete.

That is why we are excited to welcome Brett McGurk to Cisco as Special Advisor for the Middle East and International Affairs.

In his new role, Brett will help deepen our longstanding partnerships in the Middle East and globally–helping to ensure our uniquely trusted technology is incorporated in all aspects of the AI revolution, including the infrastructure buildouts ongoing in the U.S. and globally.

Brett joined Cisco chair and CEO Chuck Robbins on his recent tour of the Middle East, playing an instrumental role in negotiating and finalizing agreements announced by Cisco. These include Cisco becoming a member of the Stargate and AI Infrastructure Partnership (AIP) and serving as a founding partner of Saudi Arabia’s new AI company, HUMAIN.

Brett brings a rare combination of strategic insight and decades of global experience. Over the course of a distinguished career spanning four U.S. administrations, he has served at the highest levels of national security and foreign policy—most recently as White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa. He has played a central role in building international coalitions, securing the release of American hostages, negotiating ceasefires, engaging heads of state, and advising presidents of both parties on the most consequential matters of diplomatic and national security affairs.

He also understands how critical advanced technology is to modern diplomacy. From securing energy and technology corridors across regions to recognizing the role of AI and digital infrastructure in building strategic alliances, Brett has seen firsthand how innovation drives partnerships.

“Brett is a tremendous addition to our team,” said Robbins.  “His experience in international affairs is unmatched and we are excited to work with him to strengthen our global partnerships and further expand the central role of Cisco’s trusted technology in the AI revolution.”

It’s a privilege to have Brett join Cisco as we navigate this next chapter of global innovation together. You can learn more about his background here.
