Smartphones have proven invaluable tools for making videos, music, or other forms of content. They’re widely available and possess the necessary hardware and features to help people succeed in various pursuits. These devices are also cheaper than studio-grade tech, but they have a flaw — storage.

High-resolution videos result in big file sizes, and you struggle to find room for them if you have a ton of personal photos or apps on your phone. SanDisk may have a solution, as at CES 2025, the brand previewed a new helpful accessory called the Creator Phone SSD.

As the name suggests, it is a portable SSD designed to help users produce “content on the go.” The drive can directly save 4K resolution, 60FPS Apple ProRes videos shot on an iPhone 16 Pro. You’ll be able to begin editing footage without delay.

It’s also quite durable, sporting a tough silicone shell capable of surviving drops of up to three meters (or about 10 feet) and a resistance rating of IP65. This means the Creator Phone SSD is completely sealed against dust and can survive blasts of water.

I should mention that the drive isn’t only compatible with iOS devices; “thanks to exFAT formatting,” it works with Windows 11, Android 15, and macOS Sonoma. SanDisk has a detailed list of compatible operating systems on the device’s product page. The Creator Phone SSD also comes with a magnetic ring, allowing it to latch onto MagSafe-compatible smartphones.

SanDisk’s SSD has two storage options: 1TB and 2TB. The announcement states it is “expected to be available by” Spring 2025 with prices starting at $110 and in a bright sky blue. If you can’t wait that long, the company is also selling the Creator Pro Portable SSD.

It has many of the same features, such as the durable shell; however, several differences exist. The Creator Pro has a maximum storage of up to 4TB and reads speeds of up to 2,000MB/s. SanDisk’s other option is currently selling for $140 starting.
