Launching 2023 | Continuing a path to Speed & Scale with cloud-native predictions
Welcome to 2023 technology leaders, and happy new year! As we look ahead, it is clear that the cloud-native landscape is set to continue to evolve and become even more critical in the digital economy. We will see a rise in hybrid, multi, and cross-cloud solutions, as well as a continued growth of Kubernetes and serverless computing. Additionally, organizations will continue to leverage AI and ML, DevOps practices, and open-source technologies to create more efficient and secure cloud-native applications. As we enter the new year, keep these trends in mind and prioritize security to remain competitive and successful. Let’s make the most of this new year and make sure we are prepared for what the future of cloud-native computing holds.
- Infrastructure rightsizing requires knowledge of workloads that companies have outsourced to cloud providers. It will continue to be challenging to find a good balance based on the proliferation of cloud infrastructure types.
- Cloud-native infrastructure will become standardized in 2023 using tool sets for declarative infrastructure as code. ( Chef, Ansible, Terraform, and CSP Templates)
- Managed Kubernetes will continue to gain past 95% (See data dog report)
- Related to managed Kubernetes, it will find broader adoption in Edge and Middle scenarios related to distributed processing.
- Hybrid cloud, Cross-Cloud, & multi-cloud strategies will become widely reviewed in terms of operational cost and day-two run rates.
- Data Gravity will continue to be a driver of architectural application design decisions. This will determine the methods organizations use to adopt cloud native and scale technology.
- Related to data gravity, Cloud providers will be pressured to level costs for data-intensive applications.
- Kubernetes will become the preferred for application deployments across cloud platforms.
- Security/Compliance for Cloud Native applications will continue to enable a higher level of governance & risk mitigation.
- AI & ML architectures will become targets for cloud-native applications. (Flexibility and scale)
- DevOps practices will be used to streamline the development process.
- AI and ML will be used to create more robust applications.
First, it’s expected that cloud-native infrastructure will become more widely adopted in 2023. As organizations continue to migrate to the cloud, they’ll be looking for new ways to optimize their cloud-native infrastructure. This includes the use of containers, serverless computing, and microservices. Additionally, cloud-native technologies are predicted to become more secure, with more organizations focusing on security and compliance.
Second, the rise of hybrid, Multi & Cross cloud is to continue, with more organizations looking to leverage the benefits of both public & private clouds. This will allow organizations to take advantage of the scalability of the public cloud while also having the flexibility and control of a private cloud. Most organizations, organizations will be increasingly leveraging multi-cloud strategies, utilizing multiple cloud providers for various workloads.
Third, the use of Kubernetes is expected to continue to grow. This container-orchestration platform allows organizations to manage their containers more efficiently, and it will likely become even more popular in the coming years. Organizations are also expected to begin utilizing Kubernetes to manage distributed applications.
Fourth, the development of cloud-native applications will continue to accelerate. More organizations are beginning to use cloud-native technologies to create more efficient applications. Additionally, it’s expected that more organizations will begin to use DevOps practices to streamline the development process.
Advice for Leaders:
As technology leaders, it is essential to stay aware of the technology adoption curve and leverage new technologies to remain competitive in the digital economy. Cloud-native computing can help you lower costs and simplify complexity, and there are several key trends to watch out for in 2023. Hybrid cloud solutions, serverless computing, containers, Kubernetes, multi-cloud deployments, edge computing, AI and ML, DevOps, and open-source technologies are all expected to become increasingly important in the cloud native space. Keep these trends in mind when developing your cloud-native strategy. Additionally, prioritize security and ensure that your applications and data are secure. With the right strategy, cloud-native computing can help your organization stay competitive and successful.
