Learn to Build a Troubleshooting Assistant at DevNet Create

DevNet Create 2021 is returning on October 19th and 20th and I’m happy to be back on the virtual stage talking network automation.  Recently, I’ve been looking at ways to apply network automation skills to real world network operations and engineering activities. My talk at DevNet Create, “Building a Troubleshooting Assistant,” is just such an example.

Carl asks Alanah to help troubleshoot the network.

In this talk we’ll follow along with Alanah, a new network automation engineer working with Carl, as she is given a job for the day.  You see a critical interface has been flapping unexpectedly in the network. No one knows why it’s happening or how to stop it.  To help understand it better, Alanah needs to simply watch for it to flap, and then gather a whole bunch of output from the switch in question.  Carl didn’t ask her to automate it, but Alanah’s going to do it anyway.

In my quick presentation at Create, we’ll follow Alanah’s entire process. From asking questions, to understanding the use case, planning her approach, and finally building and testing the solution.

At the end of the session, we’ll look back at the example and some things to keep in mind when tackling solutions like this.  And of course, all the code for the example is available on Code Exchange and you can run the example yourself using DevNet Sandbox.
