My Career in Tech – My Plan vs. Reality

This blog is authored by Adrienne Moherek,
Cisco Engineering Technical Leader

I’ll be delivering a live talk for Girls in Tech on November 17 at 2:00pm CT, and I’m so nervous! I’ve worked hard on it, and it’s personal. So — I really hope you will join me for the session, but also kind hope you won’t.

I will be talking about the start of my career as a woman in tech — the good, the bad, and the ugly. The story starts when I was 17, and it was time for me to pick a major and a college. I put my whole heart into it and researched what felt like every college and major in the United States. After months of intense analysis, I finally figured out what my degree would be, what college I would attend, and what my career would be. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. My life was figured out!

Little did I know that those well-intentioned plans would be scrapped, and I would have to blaze a completely new trail instead. In my talk, I’ll tell you why it happened, and how I managed to not go insane as my carefully constructed world shifted on its foundation.

Please join me (or don’t), for my Girls in Tech talk. I’m calling it, “You Can Go Your Own Way.” You can Register here to attend.

If you can’t make my talk (or if you can), check out some of the resources that Cisco DevNet offers to help you get started in network programmability and application development.
