OpenAI introduces the new ChatGPT Pro $200-per-month plan. Here's what you get
When ChatGPT launched two years ago, the AI chatbot was in such high demand that OpenAI soon after introduced a premium plan called ChatGPT Plus for superusers to be guaranteed access. As the chatbot continues to grow in popularity, the company is introducing yet another premium tier for its most top-tier users — at 10 times the cost.
On Thursday, during its first live stream of the ’12 days of OpenAI’, a holiday-themed campaign in which the company will live stream a new demo or product launch every day, OpenAI unveiled a new ChatGPT Pro subscription, available at a whopping $200 a month.

This subscription offers the most unlimited access to all the plans yet, giving users “scaled access to the best of Open AI’s models and tools,” according to OpenAI. This includes unlimited access to OpenAI’s latest models and features, including o1, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice.
The biggest perk is access to the new o1 pro mode, the most powerful of the o1 family of models, announced today.
o1 and o1 pro mode
Until today, paid users had access only to OpenAI o1-preview; but during the live stream, OpenAI announced that the full version of o1 would replace o1-preview for all ChatGPT paid users.
The full version of o1 has many advantages over the preview version, including making major mistakes about 34% less often than o1-preview, while thinking about 50% faster. The version that ChatGPT Pro users have access to, o1 pro mode, is even more advanced, using more computing resources to reason through the hardest science and math problems.
Beyond thinking longer to solve more complex problems, it also improves the model’s response reliability, as seen by its performance on ML benchmarks across math, science, and coding. To emphasize its reliability, OpenAI added a stricter evaluation setting in which the model is considered to have solved the problem only if it gets the answer right in four out of four attempts. In all the benchmarks, o1 pro mode greatly surpassed both o1-preview and o1.
ChatGPT Pro subscribers can pick the model directly from the model toggle and enter a question they’d like assistance with. However, since the model is thinking through the question more thoroughly, and as a result, takes longer to create, it will provide a display bar showing its progress in processing the query.

OpenAI said it would continue to add more capabilities over time to Pro to unlock more “compute-intensive” tasks. The blog said to visit ChatGPT to subscribe, but — at the time of writing — ChatGPT showed options only for Plus and Teams subscribers.
