Prime Video subscribers can soon watch Apple TV+ shows – Android users, rejoice

If you’re a Prime Video subscriber, you’ll soon have additional streaming options.

Amazon announced that, later this month, Apple TV+ will be available as an add-on to existing Prime subscriptions. For $9.99 a month, you can get Apple shows like The Morning Show, Pachinko, Shrinking, Loot, and Palm Royale, plus exclusive MLB and MLS games, and more.

The price is exactly what you’d pay if you subscribed to Apple TV+ on its own.

The biggest advantage to signing up for these compared to standalone versions is that you get one bill for one app across all your devices — and all your content is in one place. Another big advantage is that this will allow Android users to stream Apple+ content for the first time. To date, Apple TV+ has an app for Android TV, Google TV, and iOS devices, but not Android. 

Prime Video has a huge lineup of add-on subscriptions available, with more than 100 to choose from — including Max, Paramount+, and MLB.TV. Sports streaming rights can be tricky sometimes, but given that live sports are mentioned in Amazon’s announcement, it’s safe to assume they are included. 

Apple TV+ debuted in 2019, but despite its generally high production budgets, critically acclaimed programming, and award nominations and wins, Apple’s streaming service has struggled to find a footing among fans. A Bloomberg report published last summer indicated that studio executives were attempting to rein in spending on projects, but with the service accounting for only .2% of TV viewing in the US, the numbers still aren’t looking great.

Apple’s hope, according to Eddy Cue, the company’s senior vice president of services, is that this partnership with Amazon puts its service in front of “as many viewers as possible.”
