Spotlight On: Jscrambler, a New Principal Participating Organization

Welcome Jscrambler, a new Principal Participating Organization (PPO) at the PCI Security Standards Council! In this special spotlight edition of our PCI Perspectives Blog, Jscrambler’s CTO and co-founder Pedro Fortuna introduces us to his company and how they are helping to shape the future of payment security.

Tell us about your company.

Jscrambler is an expert in client-side web application security. We provide multiple layers of client-side protection from code to runtime, guaranteeing companies a level of visibility and control that supports their business innovation. Jscrambler’s solutions work automatically and continuously so your apps behave exactly as intended, on every screen.

Why did your company decide to become a Principal Participating Organization?

After embracing the role of Participating Organization, we soon realized that we could have a bigger impact and contribute more at PCI SSC. As a JavaScript security expert, we want to bring our expertise to the wider payments community to help all entities involved in payments understand the ways that e-commerce transactions are attacked, as well as how to defend against them.

Becoming a PPO at PCI SSC essentially indicates that a company is committed to a higher level of involvement and commitment to the development and implementation of the PCI Security Standards, being actively involved in shaping the future of payment security.

Which benefits are you most looking forward to as a Principal Participating Organization?

We’re looking forward to several benefits such as:

  • Access to information on the development of the latest security standards. As a cybersecurity-focused company, it’s essential that we have knowledge of the new and upcoming PCI Security Standards. This will help us stay ahead of the curve in terms of security compliance and implementation, while also being ahead of emerging security threats. This is crucial for Jscrambler, as cyber threats continue to evolve, and we must stay on top of the latest developments to ensure that our customers’ data is always secure.
  • Contributing to the development of PCI Security Standards. As a Principal Participating Organization, Jscrambler has an important role regarding the development of the PCI security standards. We can provide input so that the standards remain relevant and effective for the e-commerce industry and the payment ecosystem.
  • Networking opportunities. Becoming a PPO provides several opportunities for networking with other PPOs and industry experts, which can help Jscrambler learn about best practices in the industry and stay up to date on emerging trends and threats.

Why is it important for companies to get more involved with the PCI Security Standards Council, especially at the Principal Participating Organization level?

The Council has led payment security initiatives for over 10 years. Payments are changing and the change in the Council’s governance structure means that all organizations can now help shape the payment standards of the future. But that only happens if various organizations from across the payment ecosystem participate.

Becoming a PPO at the PCI SSC allows companies to stay ahead of emerging security threats, help influence the development of security standards, network with industry peers, improve compliance and reduce costs, and enhance their reputation.

What are some payment security topics that you’re interested in collaborating on?

Protection of payments and applications from the moment where the cardholder data is entered; the attack surface has moved from the data center to the consumer’s screen, so we want to collaborate with the industry to help secure the latest attack surface: the client-side.
