Publicly available life cycle assessments document our products’ environmental impact

We are excited to announce that Cisco is now publishing life cycle assessments (LCAs) for some of our hardware products. LCAs estimate a product’s environmental impact associated with its production, transport, use, and end-of-life. An LCA takes multiple environmental impact categories into account, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water consumption, resource depletion and others, and evaluates all stages of a product’s life cycle using an inventory of relevant environmental inputs. The LCA reports are publicly…

Cleaner air, healthier buildings: How Carbon Reform is modernizing indoor environments for health and efficiency

Cleaner air, healthier buildings: How Carbon Reform is modernizing indoor environments for health and efficiency

As climate change accelerates, the need to make buildings more sustainable, energy-efficient, and healthier has never been clearer. While many climate tech solutions focus on reducing outdoor emissions, there’s a growing recognition that indoor air quality is also a growing issue. Americans spend about 90% of their time indoors, where pollutants like CO₂ and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can accumulate, making indoor air up to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Poor indoor air…

Driving social impact at work: A rewarding collaboration with WWF-Australia

Ever wonder how you can champion a cause you believe in at work? I sat down with a leader in the Asia, Pacific, Japan, and China (APJC) region to learn about how she harnessed her roles within Cisco—both in the Cisco Customer Experience team and as a core team volunteer with the Cisco Green Team Network Inclusive Community, one of Cisco’s employee resource groups (ERGs), dedicated to connecting Cisco employees for social and environmental actions….

Award-winning Cisco Sustainability Data Foundation takes the stage as key to sustainability success

Colin Seward and Sneha Balasubramanian from Cisco’s Chief Sustainability Office accept the award from SustainableIT.org Cisco’s ability to advance ambitious environmental sustainability goals comes from leadership and our next generation environmental sustainability strategy: the “Plan for Possible” — a strategy that defines our key priorities to connect a regenerative future. Importantly, making progress toward these goals requires data and technology — specifically, our Sustainability Data Foundation (SDF). Cisco’s focus on data-driven environmental sustainability contributed to…

Financing regenerative agriculture: a pathway to healthier soil, cleaner water, and climate resilience

Financing regenerative agriculture: a pathway to healthier soil, cleaner water, and climate resilience

Meet four Cisco Foundation partners working to support farmers’ transition to regenerative practices to improve resiliency and mitigate the climate crisis. As the world faces the impacts of climate change, such as soil degradation, biodiversity die-off, and water pollution, regenerative agriculture has emerged as a pathway to restore our relationship with the earth and the food it provides us. Regenerative agriculture practices like cover cropping, no-till farming, and crop rotation help restore organic matter in…

Three years of progress on the pathway to net zero

Three years of progress on the pathway to net zero

Climate change is both an urgent issue needing immediate action and a topic that requires long-term planning for positive transformation. Balancing these two horizons can be a challenge and key to making progress is defining a north star. Three years ago, Cisco announced its north star: a goal to reach net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our value chain by 2040, and in 2022 that goal was approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi)….

How technology is being used to help support environmental conservation

How technology is being used to help support environmental conservation

A new study in the scientific journal Science shows that environmental conservation is needed to help slow and potentially reverse biodiversity loss, “They found that more than half of the time, conservation actions had a net positive effect but did not necessarily stop biodiversity decline. This work shows that multiple types of conservation actions are usually beneficial and are needed to curb the loss of biodiversity.”  World Nature Conservation Day offers a moment to reflect…
