This new Philips smart lock combines palm recognition with a built-in camera for ultimate security
At CES 2025, Philips Home Access announced an enhanced version of its flagship 5000 Series, launched last year. This smart lock already led the industry with palm vein recognition to unlock, but the new version now features video capabilities.
Philips 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition smart lock
The Philips 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition smart lock combines the previous variant’s palm vein recognition technology with 1080p-resolution video monitoring. This lets the user see who’s at their door, almost combining a video doorbell and a smart lock.

Palm vein recognition is a biometric authentication technology that analyzes individual palm vein patterns. In this case, the Philips 5000 Series smart lock uses this method to authenticate the person’s identity and unlock the lock.
Palm veins are unique to each person, even in identical twins, and are often more accurate and stable over time than fingerprints. The internal structure of veins varies from person to person, but barring a major injury or severe vascular conditions, it remains stable throughout a person’s life. Although unique, fingerprints can be more susceptible to external factors, like skin dryness affecting how a fingerprint scanner reads your prints.

The new 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition Smart Lock doesn’t require an additional smart hub to connect, as it’s a Wi-Fi smart lock. It’s also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control and remote management.
4000 Series Smart Deadbolt
Philips Home Access also debuted its first Matter-compatible device, the 4000 Series Smart Deadbolt. This smart lock features Matter over Thread, allowing fast and reliable compatibility with Matter-certified smart home systems such as Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Nest, and Samsung SmartThings.
Availability
Both smart locks will be available in the second half of 2025, with pricing information to be provided later.
