‘Twas the Last Class Before Winter Break – Cisco Blogs
A poem for virtual education heroes of 2020
T’was the last class before Winter Break, and all through educator houses
Computers were shutting down, a rest for keyboards and mouses
We’ve earned a holiday break more than ever, time for lights and for cheer
And time to reflect on what was accomplished this year
Educators were warriors, the backbone of support our students needed
Who knew educators could rise to this occasion? No doubt, we did.
Classes looked like never before, lesson plans could not have expected
That soon, Webex would be how students and teachers connected.
Teaching styles were tested, as we embraced Hybrid Learning
Who knew “Virtual Educator” was a badge we’d all be earning?
It started out scary, “How will we keep students supported?”
Somewhere it became almost fun? On video, together we laughed until we snorted.
On grid video! On whiteboarding! On virtual background changing!
On Mute All! On messaging! Oh, the skills we wound up gaining!
With some toys and tools from Cisco, to get the right tips
Live training classes, lesson planning tools, and virtual field trips!
Educators were the heroes of this year; so much resilience shown
We look back, realizing how much we’ve learned, and how our students have grown
Though dreams of a safe return to class and normalcy dance in our heads
We’ve created a lasting impact, growing student access to learning instead
It’s thanks to YOU, dear educators, that we’ve made it through
So we at Cisco, pause with love, to offer a heartfelt Thank You.
As we break from computers, to hold our families tight
I wish Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good Winter Break.
