World's first 500W charger unveiled at CES 2025 – for all you SUPER power users

Ugreen/ZDNET

Chargers have slowly been getting more and more powerful, and the switch from older silicon transistors to more efficient gallium nitride technology has spurred things along dramatically to the point where premium hardware maker Ugreen has used CES 2025 as the venue to unveil the world’s first 500W charger. Currently, Ugreen has a 300W Nexode USB charger.

Yes, you read that right: 500W of power pushed out through six USB ports — five USB-C and a single USB-A port. There’s one USB-C port that supports up to 240W output, while the other four USB-C ports each offer up to 100W, and the USB-A with a maximum output of 20W.

The 240W port can output up to that power independent of the other ports, while the other five ports share the remaining 260W between them.

The charger supports USB-PD 3.1 and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast-charging protocols.

Do you need a charger this powerful? Well, if you have a high-performance gaming laptop, a handful of other smaller laptops, and a smartphone you’re happy to charge over USB-A, this is definitely the charger for you. Ugreen also mentions that the charger is “powerful enough even for large, power-hungry devices like e-bikes.”

Given the weight of the Nexode 500W charger — 1,800g/3.9lb — this unit will be more suited to sitting on your desk than being a travel charger!

There’s no word on pricing yet, but the current Nexode 300W charger has a retail price of $170, so I’d expect this 500W charger to retail for about $200 when it hits the shelves around March.
