YouTube TV gets more expensive in a few days – but you can lock in a lower price now

The subscription price for YouTube TV is going up soon — but not for everyone.

Earlier this year, the streaming service introduced a promo that makes the first six months of service $70 a month — $13 off the normal price of $83 a month. That promo ends in just a few days on March 31, meaning that if you’re considering signing up, you must do so soon.

Unfortunately, this deal is only available for new customers. Current or previous customers can’t take advantage.

The price was $73 a month just a few months ago before it jumped $10, making the total cost more than double what it was when YouTube TV debuted in 2017. While that might sound pretty expensive (and close to the cable prices that services like this were supposed to be better than), it’s in line with alternatives. Hulu Plus Live TV is $83 a month, DirecTV Stream is $90 a month, and FuboTV is $85 a month.

Those alternatives are mostly the same as YouTube TV, but there is one significant difference. If you want NFL Sunday Ticket — which lets you watch out-of-market NFL games for an additional cost of $378 a year — YouTube TV is the only option since it’s the exclusive streaming home of the service.

In the last publicly announced numbers, the service had more than 8 million subscribers.

This soon-expiring offer saves you almost $80 over six months and makes YouTube TV the most affordable of the major competitors. Once the promo period ends (after your first six months), the price goes back to $83 a month. You can cancel your subscription at any time during this promo period.
